The road was desolate and depressing. A single crow pecked at something along the side of the road, trying to get some miniscule piece of food out of scraps. It feebly hopped out of the was as I drove by.
The crows were often the only living things ever seen outside of the homes anymore, especially during the heat waves. Unfortunately, the heat waves happened so frequently and lasted so long that they seemed to run into each other. With hardly any break in the weather, people started to slowly lose their grasp on humanity. A cold winter is one thing: you could always throw on another layer, or start a fire. With heat, there is little to do. Without AC or ice, you can just sit still and wait.
